“Riverside is my bread and butter, but our church is my jam!”
Although Marsha officially became our pastor in March 2015, in function she’s been out pastor since September 2014 when she stepped in to provide pulpit support. Marsha has a pastor’s heart, caring deeply for her congregation, along with a fierce commitment to bring alive the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Following her completion of a Master of Divinity in 1981, she entered parish ministry serving as a local pastor in Washington DC, Virginia, and Illinois from 1981-1993 and from 2008 to the present. She is bi-vocational, serving for thirty years as Director of the Pastoral Care and Pastoral Education Department at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL, where she is also a member of the Ethics Committee Team and serves on the Medical Center Director Council.
In addition to her pastoral works at Riverside and the United Church of Chebanse, Marsha has a passion for the education and training of future spiritual leaders. She is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and a Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Since 2005, she actively trains and prepares individuals to qualify for Board Certification as Professional Chaplains, serving as a mentor and resource for others seeking to answer their call to minister to their communities.
Steve is a lifelong member of the Congregational/UCC faith. He joined the United Church of Chebanse family in 2018, where he has served as the Moderator of the Church Council for the past two years. He is also a lay speaker when needed during worship services. In addition, Steve serves as the Church’s representative for the farm it owns.
Steve lives on the Mund Family Farm just south of Odell, where six generations of his family have lived and worked since the late 1800’s, and where he has been managing the farm for the past 31 years as of the 2025 Spring planting. He has shared this home with his wife, Anne, for the past 51 years, where they raised their three children and welcomed their three grandchildren.
Steve worked as a cover press operator at the RR Donnelly printing plant in Pontiac, Illinois for 47 years before his retirement in 2020. He openly shares the honor he feels in serving his Church in his position as moderator and what a joy it is to be part of this warm, welcoming congregation.
